The Whisper appeared in Pegasus’s trajectory over west London.

My steed reared angrily at the floating entity.

“Easy, boy,” I soothed.

The Whisper looked like Marcel. A blue, emaciated version of Marcel.

Becoming fighting fit mere seconds ago, Winnie teleported herself between us, her light a blazing star.

“Leave here,” she warned.

“The cleansing will begin soon,” The Whisper said. “The end will come. Corruption will be burned out. Festering wounds will clean. I will clean.”

“What are you talking about?” I demanded, keeping my horse steady.

The Whisper lifted higher, staring down at me. “There can be no good in this garden. There is no delight. No wonder. No delight. No wonder.”

He vanished.

Winnie returned to horseback.

“What was that?” I asked.

A boom sounded from below, a belch of fire and screams—human and dead.

“Poltergeists!”

I knew the place the screams came from.

Hammersmith Facility.

“We must continue,” Winnie said.

Green lights shone from a clash of energy below. Necromancers were dealing with the fresh poltergeist problem.

“I should be dealing with it,” I muttered.

“First The Whisper, then your stone,” Winnie replied gently.

Sticking to the plan, with teleporting back on the table, my dear friend took us to Oakthorne.
